There has been an increase in traffic-related deaths since Covid 19 restrictions were lifted in 2021.
Why is that?
Well, logic dictates that as the number of cars increase on the roads, the chances of auto accidents also increase. But that’s only part of the story.
The rest of the story, as radio personality Paul Harvey was famous for saying, is twofold.
First, according to a July 29, 2024 “New York Times” article, police traffic enforcement has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels. Why is that? Apparently police oversight has been shifted to other more urgent areas, such as neighborhood crime, drug arrests, etc. Less police presence means greater speed and reckless driving on the highways. Have you noticed!? Second, there appears to be fewer applications for vocational police occupations. Both of which should alert drivers to be more defensive and alert in their driving habits than ever. Perhaps even drive slower than accustomed to.
In addition, there are more SUVs on the road. Again, logic might dictate that a driver would be safer in a larger vehicle. But due to people feeling safer in larger vehicles, they also feel they can drive faster without consequences. The problem with that is simple: Larger vehicles cause greater impact, which is exactly why we are seeing more serious injuries than ever before at G3 Law.
