Knoxville, Tennessee, is generally considered a safe place to live. Just like any major city, however, some roads are simply more dangerous to travel. While everyone has an opinion as to which roads are the most dangerous, we have put together a list of the roads on which drivers should not drive. Every year, the roads in Knoxville and the surrounding area are surveyed to see which roads need the most attention. These are the roads that come up time and time again.

Canton Hollow Road

This road is known for crashes and can cause serious problems for daily commuters. In just a two-year period, nearly 50 crashes were reported on Canton Hollow Road. It’s made up of twists, turns and steep hills, so visibility is poor. The road is a challenge for anyone who doesn’t drive it often. To make matters worse, several neighborhoods connect directly to Canton Hollow Road, so traffic is always heavy. During the morning hours, the road gets extremely congested as people hurry to work and school.

Fox Lonas Road

The majority of this road isn’t too bad, but there’s one section that puts it on this list. Fox Lonas Road runs between Crest Forrest and Walker Springs Roads. Over 17 accidents have occurred along its largest curve. Of these, 12 were single car accidents. Reports suggest that speeding is the cause for most of these accidents. Although it’s not the worst road on this list, it’s one that definitely deserves some respect.

Joe Hinton Road

It’s hard to believe that a road less than 1 mile long could make the list of most dangerous roads in Knoxville. However, over 33 crashes occurred on Joe Hinton Road in a span of just two years. Of these, 18 were single car accidents, and four were head-on collisions. The biggest contributing factor of the accidents was the large amount traffic that the road is unable to accommodate but gets every day.

Andersonville Pike

Andersonville Pike is a road that sees a lot of traffic every day. While most of the road is considered fairly safe, the section of road that runs between Hill Road and McCloud Road is extremely dangerous. Over the past two years, there were seven accidents on this section of road alone. The major cause of these accidents is people who are trying to merge onto Andersonville Pike from Hill Road and McCloud Road. Any time you have drivers merging onto a busy road, you have a recipe for disaster.

Here is a quick list of some of the other roads you should be aware of while traveling in Knoxville:

  • Gleason Drive
  • Sevierville Pike
  • Brown Gap Road
  • Gray Hendrix Road
  • Chapman Highway
